Niederhorn: Unique view of Lake Thun

The 1’963-meter-high Niederhorn is the local mountain of Beatenberg and is located on the north shore of Lake Thun. Hiking, orienteering hike, scooter bikes and observation of the wildlife: On the Niederhorn there is a lot to experience.

A special gondola for three leads from Beatenberg up to the Niederhorn. Beforehand you arrive from Beatenbucht with the funicular to the village of Beatenberg. Already during the ride you can enjoy the incredible view of Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps. From the upper station there is an impressive view which opens up to Emmental. The newly opened ridge circular trail belongs to the highlights of your excursion. If you are on it, you can experience the view of the whole region from various angles.


Hiking

There is over 120 kilometers of hiking trails in the Niederhorn area. Various paths with different demands and levels of difficulty await you. With a bit of luck nature enthusiasts can even encounter ibexes, chamoises or marmots on their hike.


Alpine-OL

The Alpine orienteering event – shortened to OL, offers fun for the whole family: On various levels of difficulty you will get to know the maps and step by step become an expert in orienteering. The orienteering events on the Niederhorn are free of charge, the maps are handed out at the upper station.

Scooter bikes

From the middle station Vorsass you can zoom across with the scooter bikes to Beatenberg.

Two alternative circuits are offered: The “Rocky Run” leads you quickly and directly to the valley, on the «Happy’s Trail» you take it easier. Thanks to special children’s types the scooter bike is possible for children from the age of school.

Winter experiences

Escape the dismal high fog and enjoy the snowy mountain landscape on the Niederhorn. How about a fast sleigh ride with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in the background? On the Niederhorn there is also a small but nice ski resort by the ski lift Vorsass. If you like to take it easier, you can strap on your snowshoes and go on a winter hike.

  • From Spiez it is worth it to arrive by boat: The boat stop Beatenbucht is at the foot of the Niederhorn
