Tradition and local history in the Spiezer museum of local history and viticulture

  • Spiez
The museum of local history and viticulture in Spiez is dedicated to the local history and winemaking in the region. How was life in the 18th century? You will learn interesting facts about winemaking culture in Spiez as well as the early craftmanship during your visit in the museum of local history and viticulture.

How was life in the 18th century? You will find out in the museum of local history and viticulture in Spiez. The Spiez local museum is located in a typical Simmentaler house from the year 1728. In the basement an equipped coopers’ workshop can be visited. The making of wine barrels was an important handicraft in Spiez not just due to the vineyards. In the shown workshop – not far from the vineyards – the last Spiez coopers’ barrels were made.  How life was in a farming household can be found out on the ground floor, here is also a historic kitchen.  On the top floor of the museum of local history and viticulture a permanent exhibition about local winegrowing themes is shown.

Next to the main building there is a «Trüel» as well as a storage room. In the «Trüel» the last preserved Spiezer barn with the most impressive grape press can be admired. The exhibition is dedicated to the equipment and work in the vineyards. The «Spycher» is also a part of the museum, it was once a storage space for various agricultural products.

In front of the viticulture and local history museum a baroque farmer’s garden entices you to relax. On a bench in the sun you can review the many impressions of your visit to the museum.
