Spiez Castle

Experience 1300 years of history in Spiez Castle

  • Spiez
The Spiez Castle is the landmark of Spiez. It is well worth a visit.

The castle of Spiez is a cultural heritage of national importance. It is picturesquely situated above Lake Thun, amidst the Spiezer vineyards. In the exhibition of Spiez Castle the history of the place can be experienced interactively. In the historic rooms, you can experience the change of the castle of Spiez from a medieval castle to a patrician residence of the noble families Strättligen, Bubenberg and Erlach up close.

By all means whilst visiting the castle walk along the path to the castle tower. From this unique lookout point you can enjoy a fabulous panorama of Lake Thun, the Alpine peaks and the most beautiful bay in Europe – the bay of Spiez. A photo which cannot be left out from any travel report about Spiez!

Directly adjacent to Spiez Castle is the 1000-year old castle church. The building is influenced by the early romantic architecture. Belonging to the church and castle is the park which is open all year round and well-looked after, with a fountain and a herbal garden. Stroll through the castle garden and treat yourself to a short break in the small but nice
Schloss-Café. You can enjoy the view of the turquoise blue Lake Thun over a glass of Spiezer wine.

Art exhibition in Spiez Castle

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Spiez Castle offers its culture-interested visitors a yearly changing art exhibition. Here the works of chosen artists are illuminated and elaborated.

Become a knight in Spiez Castle

Immerse yourself with your family in the medieval times. Let yourself be trained in one of the three lake castles Oberhofen, Spiez and Thun to become a knight. Different stations invite children to re-enact the life of a knight. The training is done in three different stages: From pages to knaves up to knight.
