Visit Thun Castle and learn exciting stories about the town!
Since the 19th century already Thun Castle has been accessible as a museum. After extensive renovations in 2018 all floors of the historic building are now open to visitors. A journey through the castle is also a journey through the history of the town of Thun. Every floor of the museum is dedicated to a special theme. Also the four distinctive corner towers are accessible: Here you can enjoy – depending on the direction – a unique view of Thun’s old town, Lake Thun and the Alps.
Tip: An attraction for the young and old is the round well in the castle courtyard. It is over 30 meters deep! Throw a stone into the deep and wait until it reaches the bottom.
Royal children’s birthday, riddle-aventure, hidden object fun “Made in Thun” or detective work: The young guests will be delighted in the Thun Castle. Various communication- and discovery programmes for families with children are on offer. Thun Castle is – in addition to the castles in Spiez and Oberhofen – also a training castle on the knight trail: Here the children can become knights.
This special exhibition tells the story of how Thun came to have its golden star. From April 25, 2026, through March 22, 2027, visitors to Thun Castle can learn about the role the Battle of Murten played 550 years ago and how the golden star remains a prominent feature of Thun’s cityscape and identity to this day.
Public guided tours are listed in the Thun Castle calendar.
